"mount saint” is a collection of altered images from the Oregonian’s 1980 commemorative book, “Mount St. Helens: The Volcano” documenting the eruption of the same year. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest the eruption became something of a fascination for me, and I had heard so many stories about it from family members that I almost felt like I had developed a sort of memory of the event, even though I had not been alive for it. In response, I carved images into the photographs in the book, superimposing my own images and ideas on top of the historical record.
